Book Donations
Thank you for graciously considering the River Campus Libraries for your donation- due to space constraints and collecting practices, we are generally unable to accept gifts of materials.
Donations of books and materials deemed appropriate for our collections and that enhance our support of the University’s teaching and research needs are accepted at the discretion of our library collections development staff. Please contact the Libraries’ Development and Friends Office at (585) 275-4461, the Head of Collection Strategies at (585) 275-3302 to discuss your gift. In general, once we accept a book donation, we will review it for our collections and may send duplicates or out of scope items to BetterWorldBooks.
Appraisals and Tax Receipts:
In accordance with IRS regulations, the Libraries cannot appraise any donations, however a letter of acknowledgement for volumes donated to the library will be sent to each donor. This letter may be used for income tax purposes. Donors wishing to claim a tax deduction may want to consult with their income tax preparer or the U.S. Internal Revenue Service for the proper procedure. If you have materials that you believe to be of particular value, please contact the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections and Preservation for a referral to an external expert. You may find some referral information on this list.
Thank you for thinking of the University of Rochester Libraries.
